Terms of Service
Effective 30 April 2026
1. Acceptance of these terms
These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) govern your access to and use of the SkipperKit website at www.skipperkit.com and the related courses, free tools, and content (together, the “Service”) provided by SkipperKit (“we”, “us”, “our”). By using the Service you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. The Service
SkipperKit offers self-paced skipper training material, including lessons, sample exam questions, radio drills, and supporting tools such as the VHF Commands reference, NATO Phonetic Alphabet, and a Coordinate Selector. The Service is provided for educational and informational purposes only.
The Service is not a substitute for accredited training delivered by a recognised yachting school or for the official examinations required by IYT, RYA, or any other certifying body. Always check current rules with your certifying authority and a qualified instructor before relying on any information for navigation, safety, or examination purposes.
3. Eligibility and accounts
You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service. If we offer accounts in the future, you are responsible for keeping your credentials confidential and for all activity under your account. Notify us at info@skipperkit.com if you suspect unauthorised use.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the Service in any way that is unlawful, fraudulent, or harmful to others;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service or its related systems;
- scrape, copy, redistribute, or resell content from the Service without our prior written permission;
- interfere with or disrupt the Service, including by introducing malware or sending automated traffic;
- use the Service to make navigation, safety, or examination decisions without independent verification.
5. Intellectual property
All content on the Service — including text, course material, illustrations, audio, code, and the SkipperKit name and logo — is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to access and use the Service for your personal, non-commercial learning. All other rights are reserved.
6. Third-party links and tools
The Service links to third-party websites and integrates third-party tools (for example, mapping providers and analytics). We are not responsible for the content or practices of those third parties. Their terms and privacy policies apply when you use them.
7. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any information shown is current or complete.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, SkipperKit and its contributors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses arising out of or related to your use of the Service. Where liability cannot be excluded, our total aggregate liability is limited to the amount you paid us (if any) in the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or EUR 50, whichever is greater.
9. Changes to the Service or these Terms
We may modify or discontinue the Service (or any part of it) at any time, and we may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you by a notice on the site. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
10. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the European Union and the country of the operator's establishment, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any disputes will be resolved by the competent courts of that jurisdiction, unless mandatory consumer protection law in your country of residence provides otherwise.
